Web 2.0 & Language Learning
The video is made by Graham Stanley about web 2.0 and for the emergence of language learning seekers. He introduces some tools of web 2.0 which can be used in engaging 21st century language learning they are: Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, Videos.
It is generally said that through the media anyone can learn at home which previously only professors with special equipment can accomplish.
Firstly, he talks about blogs and how it is used by teachers in language learning. Blogging appeals to language teachers because its a way to opening up the classroom wall. Blogs have been used in keeping track of what’s happening in classroom and it’s usually run by the classroom teacher.
Secondly he talks about Wikis that its a website which can be written to by lots of people. Here content is given priority not design and any page of wikis can be reverse because wikis has a reverse history.
Secondly, he talks about how language teacher can use it, to support that he says online classroom webpages can be changed easily by teachers and students in classroom projects.
At the last, he talks on Pod-casting, it’s a way of using voice to connect students from around the world as well as providing lots of results for students to listening about their course. Pod-casting appeals to the “digital natives”. Teacher can use podcast by downloading audio/video files and use them in language teaching. Community is a online practice which is the best place to keep in touch with the pod-casting classes.
Stanley concludes his talk by talking about virtual world, in particularly Second Life. Web 3.0 is for the future generation. There are lots of educational projects going on. Many universities has started using second life as part of their student’s e-learning. This kind of convergent audio, video, texts & 3D gaming is a very motivating way of educating the future generation of students.
